The tent is well underway in terms of the interior. I have gathered several objects that I can put inside of the tent to add an aspect of the culture to it, such as music, cooking, tradition, etc. The essay is near complete, I only must add the bulk information to it. The music is made as well, and is ready to be recorded. Over the christmas vacation coming up, I plan on sharpening up all of these things in order to make my project as full proof as possible.
This week, I have finished the tent structure, so it is a matter of simply gathering the details for the interior. I ended up using 6 poles in my tent, 4, 5 ft. and 2, 7 ft. I have also made all my music and have written it down in notation (so as not to forget it), having showed a music example to my advisor and getting constructive criticism which helped me complete it. I now have to record this music, which should not be too difficult. What I plan on finishing now is the essay, which I am confident I can finish within the next week, because I have gathered all the information necessary.
This week, the visual arts portion of my project (the tent) is completed in terms of the structure. I have sewn together the materials and have made the base out of a plywood structure in order to give a sturdy support for the poles, six out of eight being 5 feet, and the last two being 8 feet. Now, its a matter of the detail inside of it that I could portray the culture through, which is also on its way to being completed. The essay is also going well, the information being gathered individually and it being pieced together. The music is being written as well, however a problem in the future may be how I will record this. The music is the next thing that I will be working toward but, in general, my project is coming together quite nicely and can expect to be finished within three weeks.
And pictures of the tent building process will be put up.
This week, I have gathered the materials needed to start the construction of the tent. This will take place over the Thanksgiving break, in which it is my goal to finish the frame so I can focus on the interior design. As the project draws to its end, I am starting to finish each of the components of my project. The music right now is an issue, because of recording processes and the use of it with the display.
This week I have gathered the materials to begin the construction of the tent, deciding to use black burlap sheets for the fabric material in order to match the goat hair texture and loose weave. I'm also gathering the poles that will hold my tent up, and the blueprint is made. Problems may include the construction of the base of my tent, which I am making the plans for now. In the future I will continue to make my essay through the piecing together of my research.
This week is dedicated to getting the plans for the construction and materials of the Bedouin tent together. I have gathered resources showing where I might get wool, blanket-like materials for the walls and roof, and i plan on carving the poles myself from wood. The base of the tent is also being decided upon. The gathering of smaller details will come afterwards. I have also made an outline for the essay so I can now proceed with that portion with ease. Problems may include the gathering of rugs for the floor, for I still need to find a source. I am going to start asking around the rug stores in the hamptons to see if I may borrow any materials. In the near future, I hope to receive the rest of the musical products so I can start to proceed and finish that.
This week, I have made considerable progress in the field of music and visual arts in terms of my project. I have found the particular style of music and the instrument I am going to use for the music portion of the project (the oud). I have also had a meeting with the fire marshall about the space where I plan on making make my tent, and the fire marshall generally approves. I plan on working on the rest of the essay in the near future and I see no problems now.
I am slowly but surely making progress on my project, research is coming together. I am starting to make the plans for the tent I will be making, measurements and materials are being learned. I am also in the process of hopefully getting a senior project mentor, Ken Dorph. I hope to soon have the measurements for my tent so that I can get the space in which I can pitch my tent.
