At this point I am essentially done with what I will install in the gallery. I've done about 4 additional drawings and two more bottles. I framed a decent amount of my work, I have a few left that are peculiar sizes that I'll need to go to photo place for. My movie is completed and the TV it will be playing on is painted. The box it will be sitting is about half done and is really the only thing left to do. I have a few sketches of how it will sit in the space. I need to get a few candles and bits and pieces.
This week I have gathered essentially all of the bits and pieces that will be included in my installation I picked out where exactly it will lay out in the gallery. Since I can not install now I am trying to picture if I have enough/too much and pieces that fit. All of the drawings and collages are done, I am currently finding and making frames that mirror the message in the artwork.
This week I've finished another panel of the center piece of my installation. I'm thinking of what type of sealing I should use to do so, I guess something along the lines of varnish. I know how I'll lay out everything at this point I just need to keep gathering pieces as well as making frames and art to go in them. The video is completed and I am looking for an old TV that I can paint and play my movie on. Once I find one I'll paint it white and drawn patterns on it which will appear in other aspects of the project. When I'm able to begin installing things I think it would tie together better if I were able to paint a pattern on the wall behind it as well.
This past week I've almost completed my video montage. I also began to add pieces to my frames that I will eventually paint white and put my collages in. I started laying out how my installation will look in the gallery, putting found objects and such together with sculpture like things I made. I drew with craypas on a slab of wood in which I will put into the shrine. I need to continue to put things together as well as collage and find objects that will flow with the installation.
This week I met with my outside consultant Oliver. We discussed my collages and the framing of them. He brought in three frames I can work with, two of which I started mounting things on and painting white. I also constructed a big wood box that I began making patterns on. I did a pattern on a wine bottle and two beer bottles as well which I think I'll put and burn a candle in. I got final cut pro on my laptop so now I can work on my film project at home, which has helped me get a lot more done. I'd say I'm about halfway done with physical artwork and kind of close to being done with my video. I need to keep making more art and work more on my video in the coming weeks.
These past two weeks I believe I've accomplished a lot. I laid out my collages and did a few more, I realize I need a couple more but I still have a few at my house as well so that should be enough collage that I'm aiming for. I've made a couple sculptures I guess you could call them as well. Its a bunch of materials I layered onto different sized bottles that I'll incorporate in my installation. I've also collected a bunch of materials that will mesh well with the layout. I finished four drawings that include pencil, craypa, colored markers and tape. I'm starting to get my collages mounted and am thinking of how they will hang on a wall. Video wise I am a little bit more than half way done and realize I have a lot to accomplish. I did get final cut pro on my computer so I'll be able to work at home as well. I started making a playlist that will fit well with the artwork too. I need to work more on my video and begin mounting my collages.
This week I've furthered my video projects and decided to make two separate videos that accompany two different picked songs. As of now one is #1 by Animal Collective and Drain You by Nirvana. I've been cuting the video to the beat of each particular song and have been trying to mimic the song in my own light. Collage wise I went through a few bins worth of magazines and collected images and words. Soon, possibly next week, I'll start mounting them on paper and eventually framing them. I've done a couple drawings as well with both pencil and pen I can use for my portfolio. I'm also drawing and laying out how the collages would fit next to each other on a wall.
This week I met with my outside consultant Oliver for the first time. I saw a large portion of his work which was all inspirational and helpful in expanding my collage horizons. I also watched a movie on Ray Johnson which Ms. Cross let me borrow. His work is amazing and I'd like to have my stuff take somewhat of a similar turn in the sense of incorporating drawing. I've completed about five new collages and a great deal of quotations which all help the final piece. I've also been working on my video which is coming along slowly but surely. In the future I need to just keep chipping away at both mediums.
This week I made three boxes in which i divided my collages and overall organized my work space better. I brought some collages to my outside consultant for review. I also started using new materials to improve the flow of the images. I need start thinking about how they would fit together on the wall. I'm also ready to start the movie, I just need to get subjects together.
