Website Posted!! Fabulous Donations!!

This has been a VERY productive week thus far! I contacted both of my sisters, Amanda and Jenny, letting them know that the date of my event is December 5th.  They were both very enthusiastic and excited to help me.  Amanda contacted many of her friends to see if they would be willing to make donations, all of them have said yes so far!! I have been donated a pair of women's, and a pair of men's leather harness FRYE boots (valued around $230 each), and a large donation from the NBA, a goody bag valued around $250 along with a signed jersey by the Hornets player Emeka Okafor. I will also hopefully be recieving donations from tiffany's, and a PR company that will either send me concert tickets or CD's.

... by the way, my event has been named JRL, The Joy of Returning Life. (JRL is also standing for my father's initials)

More work..

    So, the naming process is still in progress.. this is a lot more difficult than i imagined.  I spoke to Miles and with help from his father, they suggested I should use an acronym, or possibly name my event JRL (my father's initials, come up for another meaning as well). I am going to speak with Alexis more and hopefully come to a final decision about a name this week.  

    My systems meeting is tomorrow at 9am.  I am asking to hold my event in the senior building, on the 5th of December.  My event will be approximately 2 hours long.  Ms. Parkes gave me the form that I will need to fill out for my systems meeting. I have a lot of people to email, and so much to do.

I have a feeling that December will be coming a lot sooner than I think..

Naming & Process Booking

This past week I have been making an effort to work on my process book as much as possible.  I have been writing down a lot of random thoughts on my project, and have been looking up necessary facts.  I looked up a bunch of Pancreatic Cancer facts such at the survival rates (less than 5% by the way for a caucasian man or woman...), ways to treat it, and the number of cases discovered per year (over 30,000 in the USA and over 60,000 in Europe).  Besides that, I've been trying really hard to give my event a name.. it's a lot harder than I thought to come up with one.  Every name I have tried to attach to my project just didn't seem to fit, or if it did, just seemed far too corny for my (or Alexis') taste.  Any name suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! :) I've also been organizing more things for my auction.. free teeth whitening by Gerry Curatola, 1/2 fishing charter on a private boat (thanks Mr. Federico!), and clothes from the Sag Harbor store Blue (thanks Roli & Paige!!).

My goal for the next few weeks is to actually start collecting all of the gift certificates, photographs, art pieces, etc. that I am putting in my auction.. and to confirm with all of my performers for the concert portion of my event. 

Benefit for Pancreatic Cancer - intro

For my senior project I am putting on a benefit to raise money for pancreatic cancer research/awareness. I am going to put on a concert, have a silent auction, and possibly have a raffle as well. My senior project mentor is Alexis Martino, and I have been working on my project since Fall 2008.

My father died of pancreatic cancer when I 11 years old, and it greatly changed me.  I always thought that I would do a photography or dance based senior project, but I wanted to do something different, and something that would actually benefit others.  My benefit will be in honor of my father.

A very brief overview of my Senior Project:

put on a benefit to raise money/awareness for Pancreatic Cancer in honor of my father who passed away because of this disease. I will put on a silent auction, and a concert. I just saw that a very famous actor, Patrick Swayze died today of pancreatic cancer as well.
