It as a fairly unproductive week. The main reason I didn't get much done is because I didn't have the recording gear, I ordered the recording stuff and it should come by next week. I have six compositions written and am on a good writing path.
This week, I created a good amount of new stuff. I have officially decided to cut my song-list from 17 to 8 instead. Although I am ready to record, I still don't have the adequate materials, and I was actually wondering about the student budget that was mentioned last year. There are some materials I require for my product.
In the past week I've been recording more. I also have the first two tracks in order, perfectly blending into each other. I need to get my new computer soon so I can start the legitimate recordings, and I also need to borrow a couple mics from ross sooner then later.
This week I started recording rough demos of my final songs, so I at least have an idea of what the final product will sound like. I also started notating the melodies so I can get a start on the string parts I'm going to add. So far I have a good 10 minutes worth of music recorded and have a better idea of what I'm going to add on to the songs I have right now.
For my senior project I am going to compose 17 songs for each year of my life. each song will blend into the next one, to represent the linearity of life, and each song will capture a high-point in that specific year of my life. The sound I plan to create will be slightly symphonic but will a modern music twist. I will also be experimenting with writing string parts for my piece, something that I have never done, but feel is vital for my pice as a whole. I also plan on having a string quartet play the string parts I write in my final presentation. I hope to have a good grasp of writing music in a short amount of time and also to gain a good sense of composition and organizing music. I expect the result to be about an hour, maybe a little less.
