So last night Mr. Kilfara tried to transfer all of my work from the hard drive to his back up drive because mine is damaged. Most of the files transferred over fine but last I heard from him last night, there were several files that were moving at a snailss pace that he was worried about because they shouldn't be taking that long to transfer. The brand new hard drive that I bought for this project is damaged mechanically some how so I'm going to need to buy another one and I'm going to bring the other one to apple, where I bought it, and try to get a refund, because I've only been using it for 2 weeks. Since I have all of my footage backed up at home on an additional hard drive, I'm not worried about losing footage, I'll just be frustrated if I lose some of the work I've been doing for the past few weeks, but at least I now know that most of the files are safe.
Today, I was in the edit lab working on my footage and I kept getting the color wheel of doom and the application Final Cut Pro kept freezing so I was really worried. Mr. Kilfara took my hard drive so that he could take it home and a) back it up on his computer (in addition to the backup hard drive that I have at home) and b) work with the hard drive so that he can fix whatever is making it freeze. He is being a huge help because I am very worried about losing all of the work I have been doing on it for the past 2 weeks! It will be a major set back to my project if I lose the work that I've been saving on it, especially since I've been working even more on it during senior project time, after school, during post production class, and home after school. I'm really worried right now! But things like this are bound to happen in the project, not everything could have gone smoothly, I'm just glad that Mr. Kilfara seems to know a way to fix it.
I downloaded the iPhone app! I've been editing my film all day on this beautiful Saturday!! still logging all the footage from labor day
For my senior project, I am creating a narrative film based on an important literary work that was inspired by my interests in both film and literature. I am doing a short narrative based on a work of literature in my AP Literature textbook calledWhere Are You Going? Where Have You Been? Undertaking the filming of a known work of literature and creating a visual narrative has been a challenge but it will be very rewarding when I have the finished product. The chilling work was based on a true story of a serial murderer in Tuscon, Arizona. It is a cautionary tale that tells of a teenager who when acting provocatively attracts the attention of a sociopath who then proceeds to psychologically terrorize his victim. I hope that the film will introduce students to the work of Ms. Oates and that the project will give other authors confidence in me to allow me to adapt their literary works to film. I began my summer by writing a screenplay adapted from the short story and then workshopped it in a class at Stony Brook University with Craig Lucas (many of his plays are on broadway). I then went to NYU for 4 weeks during July and August and earned 6 credits through two film classes. Through August, I continued doing pre-production for the shoot and completed shooting during thursday of labor day weekend through sunday night, all day (and in most cases all night as well). I am now focusing on furthering my knowledge of final cut pro and trying to edit my footage into a short film.
