This week I have been trying to finalize all my text and make sure that I finish all the written work of my magazine on one big document. I have not completed all of it yet but the goal is for it to be done by friday. I am still working on my collages. I need to get them finished next week. On monday I have to put all my stats or texts on the pages and I will be going over that with Ms. Cross. Next week im just trying to finish up as much as I can. 

This week I took more pictures for my magazine of my cousins with a bowls. I didn't get to go to the city and volunteer like i planned but i managed to get some signatures for the Al Gore movie for the organization. This whole week over thanksgiving break, i plan to get my project done for a demo book on dec 6th. I have alot of stencil art to do too. Wish me luck!

Alot is going on. I am very busy. I have painted tons tons of backgrounds and my goal is to finish a collage or two next week. I am going to the city on Wednesday to help out with this Organization called No hunger Campaign with passing out flyers and distributing No Hunger postcards to sread awareness. Al Gore might make a movie about world hunger, if he gets enough people to do it or signatues. I am going around with a petition for people to sign that the organization has sent. I already signed it myself online but if you are interested and want to check out the trailer you can go to www.askalgore.org. and you can also sign the perition as well. uhm, I had allegra takke pictures on thursday of me with a red cup for the "Fill the Red Cup" campaign by WFP. That was very succfesful, shes amazing and I want to include that in my book as well. It was fun to do but we are not done. We plan on taking more pictures on Monday. Over the weeked I decided that I am going to make a contact sheet for my book. I am going to take pictures of two of my cousins with an empy bowl. I thought that would be cool for a background piece in my book. I am also practicing my stencils and continuing to work hard. Catch ya next week!

Hey,

So the last two weeks have been a little hectic. I am getting seriously nervous about deadlines.. so many ideas are pouring out of my head that I cannot seem to keep up with them. I had written before that I have completed my collages.. well that was serious typo. Actually, I have completed the layout for my collages meaning the things that I am going to include on each page and whatever. I have finished the my demi layout for the magazine and it has come close to about 55 pages.. Yikes ! It is hard to leave anything out though because it all seems so relevant. My goal is to get more collage collage collage backgrounds! I want at least 10 from this weekend. I aim for it. I am freaking out because I am not sure that I can make 50 collages. I am going to have to figure something out. My facts and statistics for my three countries and overall global hunger facts have been revised and are complete. I have chosen which stats I want to include in my pages. I just need to figure out the type font and size that I want and also of course the PAPER. I plan to go this weekend to a craft store and buy paper that I want to print the facts. I have decided on Thursday that I am going to use Blurb to start creating my magazine which is perfect because I am pretty familiar with it.. but i need to scan a finished collage. So I am a little nervous. I hope at this craft place in Riverhead, I will find cool intricate things that would be perfect for my magazine ! Next week, I plan to focus more on my stencils ! That means stenciling more images.. I really need to send one to my outside consultant. I wont send one until I am proud of it so i really need to figure that out ! On thursday, Ms. Cross and I started cutting my pages, we decided on 7 and a half by 9 and a half and its the perfect size and I love it so I am happy about that. I also need to figure out the title for my senior project.. so I am really open to any suggestions.. honestly. Anyway, I am so excited and so nervous but I really believe that I can do this and I just can't wait to see how beautiful everything is going to turn out. Wish me luck!

Hey Bloggers!

So I am almost finished with all my collages and I emailed a stencil artist Joe Lurato and he said that he is interested in helping me with my senior project. We are setting a time to meet and I have finished all my facts and statistics about hunger and now im on to researching information about Zimbabwe. I have finished my magazine layout and it will end up being about 56 pages long.

Hi bloggers!

Ok so this week I have been working on my backgrounds for my collage pages. I am using watercolor and crepas. My goal is to complete 10 pages in total. I only finished 1 and a half. But I have been doing alot of research on african art and textiles. My mentor gave me two books on the art styles of Africa. I wanted to be inspired.. I have also worked on finding more images for stenciling.. my goal is to have as many pictures to choose from as much as possible. I started typing up my statistics on global hunger and for the countries. I decided to include Malawi, Africa as part of my project; which I have learned is another great examples and is the poorest country in the world. Hopefully, by then end of the weekend I will have more pages done and by next week it will be done. I am working on the backgrounds like the colors I am going to use and the themes in the color. I have researched the colors of Zimbabwe, the flag and the Caribbean colors. I am very open for suggestions for a project title or my magazine title. I have like not a clue. I really want it to be unique and catchy though. This weekend I want to stencil! sooo badly. I looked up a graffiti like stencil art show in New York and I found one on December 11th in Brooklyn, I forgot the name of it but its really cool. I really want to go. Im UBER excited. I am looking for ones earlier though like one I could visit over Thanksgiving break. But this is the picture that I want to stencil: its a photograph from port - a - prince, Haiti. so yea..

This week I have worked on my "web" which is a brainstorming web for my process portfolio where I am adding more and more research that I discover. Ive been working more on the  process portfolio.

I plan on starting on my articles next week and interviewing a native from haiti who is peot from Urban Word. I also plan on starting my first collage page and to plan out what I want my other pages to look like. I also need to find more images to use for my exhibit.

In the future, I plan on finishing all my stencils, that means cutting them out and having them ready for display. I need to decide how many I want to make.

first thing.

First things first,

let me explain exactly what I am doing for my senior project.

I am creating an art exhibit of stencil art (spraypaint art) illustrating the issue of global hunger and even focusing on two contries Zimbabwe and Haiti, which have current diar issues of hunger that is destroying the country. I am also creating a magazine and graphically designing the book and writing articles to spread awarness and inform people about the issue. I want to explore the causes of hunger and explore possible solutions.

Summer Reading Book: 

My summer reading book is called "Where I live" by Mia Kershner and its about deaths and tragedies (of women mostly) that occured in the city or town of where the author has grew up or is living. Issues like a girl rapping, prostitution or sex trafficking. Things like that. The author is the book based on a situation that happened in their hometown through not just writing but also intricate illustrations like sketches, photos, graphic design etc. to make the book very personal, almost like a diary or a sketchbook. One thing I very much enjoy about the book is how its very pretty and personal and interesting to look at, though its very horrid and sad. That is the inspiration for my magazine that I want to create. The books very much grab your attention and make you notice every corner of the page. The book is just visually stunning. The voices of these women are told in their own words or through artists and writers. 

This summer I have been working on getting all my research together as much as possible about global hunger, as well as sources. Like, statistics, news, maps etc. I have to make sure that all my research before I start putting together my artistic half of my project. I have also been brainstorming and decided what should be included inside of my magazine and who I will interview for the magazine. Also, what articles I will write and places that I will visit. I think that is biggest challenge right now is who I should interview to talk about their views of the issue or talk about the issues in Zimbabwe or Haiti because I have never been to those places. 

I am very excited on how my final piece is going to come out. I imagine it every day and its soo exciting.
